Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are used to decrease the action of overactive muscles. The result is fewer wrinkles, while still having a natural facial appearance. In some situations, this type of injection can also provide relief for headaches and migraines.
Browlift surgery raises the eyebrow to its natural position. It simultaneously makes the forehead look less heavy and decreases redundant eyelid skin.
Earrings are beautiful, but sometimes the hole stretches or tears. Repair is possible, and earrings can be worn at a later date. This procedure can also repair large holes created from gauges or remove unwanted piercings.
Rhytidectomy, or facelift, is a surgery to remove wrinkles on the face and jaw. It includes a combination of tightening of the tissues of the face as well as excision of excess skin. It can be combined with other procedures such as blepharoplasty, fat grafting, and lip augmentation.
Facial scars are a constant reminder of prior trauma, and can be embarrassing. Scar revision surgery helps to camouflage their appearance. As an adjunct to surgery, steroid injection, pigmentation correction, radiation therapy, laser, or silicone gel application may be added. We carry Biocorneum, which is a silicone gel with SPF 30. Upon application, it dries clear, and can be used under makeup.
No one wants to look older than they feel. However, as we age, the tissues of the face undergo some dramatic changes. Bone remodels, and in many cases the bony support to the overlying skin, subcutaneous fat and muscles is lost. At the same time the soft tissue support becomes weaker, allowing gravity to pull the tissues downward. In some areas, subcutaneous fat is resorbed, making the process even more dramatic. As a result, facial wrinkles, or rhytids, are one of the first signs of aging.
A filler is a substance that is injected into the tissue in order to replace tissue volume. Because they create lift and fullness to tissues, they can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, fillers can also be used to sculpt the face. Areas that work well for fillers include the cheeks, the naso-labial folds (wrinkle between the nose and corner of the mouth), lips, marionette lines, and jowel.
Typical fillers come in a variety of formulations. Hyaluronic acids (brand names include Belotero, Juvederm, Voluma, Vollure, Volbella) occur naturally in the soft connective tissues of the face and the fluid surrounding your eyes. These products work like a water “sponge”. As the product is broken down by the body, the hyaluronic acid actually holds more water. The result is that the volume that you see remains relatively constant during the longevity of the product.
Calcium hydroxyl apatite (brand name includes Radiesse) naturally occurs in bone. These fillers are biosynthetically created, meaning that no animals or animal products are used to make them. Because the molecules in this product are somewhat larger than hyaluronic acids, it cannot be used in delicate tissues like the lips or close to the skin surface. As the product is broken down by the body, it stimulates the creation of collagen, which is a natural part of the soft tissues. This causes the skin to regain thickness, and help to reverse the natural aging process. The results are immediate, and can last a year or more.
Fat and skin (dermis) are natural fillers. They require surgery at a different part of your body to provide “donor” tissue. This donor tissue is injected or placed into the area that needs more volume. Permanent improvement in skin quality, especially in radiated skin, can occur. In some cases, pigmentation of the skin can also be improved. Unfortunately, not all of the fat which is transferred survives this process, and the results can be less predictable than over the counter fillers. Results, once stabilized, tend to be permanent.
Kybella, or deoxycholic acid, is a product which is injected into an area of fat in order to destroy fat cells. It is most commonly injected in the submental area (to remove a double chin). Injections can also help remove fat from small well defined areas such as fatty breast tissue near the axilla or the inner thigh. Results take approximately 2 months to occur. Repeat injection may be needed.
Liposuction helps to sculpt the shape of the body through the removal of unwanted fat. It can be used on the neck, arms, chest, abdomen, flanks, mons pubis, back or thighs. Liposuction can be done at the same time as most other procedures, but is most commonly done with a face and neck lift, tummy tuck, thigh lift or breast lift. It can be performed safely during a mommy makeover. In addition, the fat which is removed can be used to augment other parts of the body, such as the face, breasts, and hips.
After surgery, you will need to wear a compression garment like a girdle for approximately 6 weeks. Final results can take up to 6 months, but are long lasting.
Necklift surgery tightens the musculature over the neck, creating a more firm and youthful profile. It can be combined with facelift or with liposuction, and is tailored to your specific needs.
Rhinoplasty is surgery that changes the external appearance of the nose, creating better facial balance.
Pigmentation Correction
Uneven pigmentation of the skin can be caused from a variety of factors, including age, sun exposure, and genetics. At New England Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, we are dedicated to creating a customized skincare regimen based upon your needs.
Seborrheic keratoses (SKs) are benign skin lesions that form in areas of skin trauma and sun exposure. They appear to be waxy, stuck-on lesions. Eskata is a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide which helps to remove raised seborrheic keratoses. It is a quick in office procedure with minimal to no down-time. Results occur in 2-3 weeks. Larger or flat SKs can be removed by surgical shaving, which is also performed in our office.
Solar lentigo are benign flat pigmented areas caused by sun exposure, skin type, and genetics. CryoCorrect is a cold CO2 application which helps to freeze the top layer of skin, effectively removing the solar lentigo. Results can be seen in 2-3 weeks. For patients with more extensive solar lentigo, overall skin pigmentation correction can be found through the use of retinoids and hydroquinone or non-hydroquinone brightening creams. The addition of a facial peel or Fraxel laser helps to speed the removal of superficial pigmentation and create a more even skin tone and texture.
Chemical Peel
Chemical peels are used to help rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. Although all peels remove dead skin cells, the strength of the peel (as well as expected downtime) can vary widely. When used as part of an overall skincare regimen, peels provide stimulation for skin regrowth, improved overall skin color and texture, and a more youthful appearance. A peel can also help to reduce acne breakouts and minimize clogged pores.
Laser
Fraxel Dual is a CO2 laser with two treatment modes. It stimulates both the superficial and deeper layers of the skin to undergo new collagen growth. This reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles, as well as improves the overall skin color and texture. It can also reduce the appearance of acne scars. Results are long-lasting with good skin care maintenance and sun protection. Most people have skin redness and flaking for up to one week. In New England, the fall, winter and spring are excellent seasons to undergo laser treatment.
Vbeam Perfecta is a pulsed dye laser that targets vascular and pigmented lesions. It can be used in conjunction with Fraxel to improve the appearance of skin with Rosacea.
